Dr. Pattrawut Charoenroop is an Associate Professor of English at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA). He holds a BA in English from Burapha University, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics from the Australian National University, and an MA in TESOL from the University of New South Wales. In 2016, he earned his Ph.D. in English as an International Language from Chulalongkorn University. As a Fulbright Junior Research Scholar in 2015, he conducted research on interlanguage pragmatics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
At NIDA’s Graduate School of Language and Communication, Dr. Charoenroop teaches courses in English language studies, including Intercultural Pragmatics in English, as well as English language teaching, such as Teaching English as a Global Language. His research interests include interlanguage pragmatics, variational pragmatics, cross-cultural and intercultural pragmatics, politeness theory, and speech acts. He is also engaged in studies on English for professional development and intercultural communication.
Recognizing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in educational contexts, Dr. Charoenroop has integrated AI technology into his pedagogical and research frameworks. He is the author of a book on ChatGPT-assisted English language learning, which promotes autonomous, self-directed learning and lifelong skill development. Building on this work, he has developed an AI-powered chatbot designed to support Thai EFL learners with grammar, vocabulary, and language use. His project has received national and international recognition for its practical impact, with plans underway for further book publications.
